Family Christian Church
On Friday, September 22nd, I was able to make contact with Johannes Motau. Johannes is a bi-vocational pastor who serves a congregation of 150 South Africans. Pastor Motau took me on a tour of his church and the neighborhoods in which he serves. On Monday, September 25, 2006, pastor Motau took me through an impoverished community of approximately 200,000 people who lacked running water and electricity. Their homes were about 15 feet long and 6 to 8 feet wide with dirt floors. Witchcraft and alcohol abuse was a way of life in this neighborhood. Christians who escaped the above community and lifestyle built cinder block homes without running water or electricity but were vastly better off. These Christians only relocated across the road from the poor neighborhood as a beacon of Christ’s light. The third level of society in Mamelodi, South Africa, was a community with stucco walls and brick-tiled roofs. This community is where Pastor Motau lives, yet he is one block from the poor and middle neighborhoods. Pastor Motau is using the New Testaments to equip his congregation and other New Testaments as outreach tools to the three communities within Mamelodi, South Africa.
Heart For Africa
Swaziland-Mawelawela Women’s PrisonIn August 2006, SNTM partnered with Heart For Africa to provide 240 Siswati New Testaments to all prisoners and their children in the Malkerns Township. Janine and Shirley of HFA distributed the New Testaments and blankets at a chapel service.
Greater Arabic-Speaking Nations Project
Due to the sensitive nature of this project, information will be scarce. In September 2006, SNTM and a local organization distributed 1,000 Arabic New Testaments to the world’s more significant Arabic-speaking nations.
Church Volleyball Tournaments
Lawton, OK(March 3, 2006)
Wichita Falls, TX(March 24, 2006)
We have just completed our first fundraising event for not only 2006 but the first fundraiser for the Sonrise New Testament Ministries. On Friday, March 3, 2006, Martha Road Baptist Church (Blair, OK) and Trinity Baptist Church (Frederick, OK) came together to enjoy an evening of recreational volleyball and fellowship. This tournament allowed approximately 125 South African families to receive a New Testament in their native language. A special thanks goes out to Bill Bumpas and the KSYE 91.5 FM family. Their consistent public service announcements and multiple interviews leading up to the Lawton, OK, and Wichita Falls, TX, volleyball tournaments were a testament to their dedication to spreading the gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
On Friday, March 24, 2006, we completed our second fundraiser event for 2006. This church volleyball tournament in Wichita Falls, TX, was attended by the First Baptist Church of Archer City, TX, and The Cowboy Church of Henrietta, TX. All had fun and fellowship. This event allowed approximately 175 South African families to receive a New Testament in their native language. A special thanks goes out to Keith Sanderson and the KMOC 89.5 FM family. Their many public service announcements and interview for the Wichita Falls, TX, volleyball tournament shows their desire to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
These tournaments’ spiritual and physical impact may be significant because the New Testaments are going to people with no written form of the Bible in their native language. The average life expectancy of individuals in these South African families is approximately 40 years due to AIDS and other diseases. Some families travel 5 hours on foot to attend a church service in a local schoolhouse.
Thanks to and God bless the families of those churches and individuals who contributed more to this specific ministry event.
May our Lord Jesus Christ bless the written word that will be distributed to the South African people. May these families come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ that will span generations and permeate their society.
God bless the congregations and their families from Oklahoma and Texas who obeyed the call of the Great Commission.
